Called to Walk on Water

christianunionusa

This is such a wild encounter between Jesus and Peter. Jesus calls Peter to walk on water, something we know is impossible. However, as Jesus later instructs the disciples, what may seem impossible with man,“with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). In a moment of courage, Peter steps out of the boat and begins to walk, then he sees the wind, becomes afraid, and Jesus has to save him.

I doubt any of us will find ourselves in a boat anytime soon, needing courage to physically walk on water, but I believe that every day, we are called to walk out in faith. It could be reaching out to that person you always pass as you're walking around campus, or giving God more time in your day, whatever part of our life we need to be courageous in.

One obstacle for Peter to continue walking towards Jesus was his fear. Many of us might feel like Peter in similar situations: we look around at everything happening around us and doubt God. When you find fear preventing you from pursuing God’s call for you, let’s ask ourselves, "Where does that fear come from?" Whatever the fear is in your life that holds you back, give it to Him. Only then will we be able to walk on the water.
