Jesus Above it All

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55: 8-9

Too often, we find ourselves second-guessing God and His holy ways, venturing to predict or anticipate what He is doing and questioning why He is doing things at all. I, personally, have recently fallen into the trap of thinking: “But what if things would have been different? Why did God lead me to this place, at this time, when I envisioned myself in a completely different place?” It’s certainly a trap that will pull us away from our Father, and only lead us to unrest.

As we approach Thanksgiving Day, let us be reminded of this:

God is big; we are small. God is all-powerful; we are weak. God is perfect; we are not.

God is never ending, almighty, and unfailing – and He will never let us down.

When we talk to God, or find ourselves questioning Him, we must understand that we will never be able to fully comprehend Him. Yes, He has revealed Himself to us, but only in part. When we think of God, we should remember that His “thoughts are not [our] thoughts”, and “neither are [our] ways [His] ways.” There should be a humility in us when we think or speak of God, a deep reverence that knows He is beyond us in every way.

This respect, if held rightly, will only lead us closer to Him. Let’s be thankful that God has revealed Himself in such ways and take it a step further, thanking Him for all He’s done – no matter how rare, uncomfortable, challenging, hard, or unexpected.

Let’s be humbled and grateful by the grandeur and selfless love of our God who is beyond our full comprehension.
